Serving with Purpose: My Journey as an Emergency Photographer
Community & Culture

Hello, my name is Benny Braden, Jr., and I'm proud to call Harriman, Tennessee, my home. My background is rooted in public service as a former volunteer firefighter, EMT, rescue diver, vehicle extrication instructor, and swiftwater rescue instructor. Although it has been 17 years since I stepped away from my first responder role, my commitment to serving the community remains as strong as ever.
Today, I dedicate my efforts as an emergency photographer for the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads and its Swiftwater Rescue Program—an organization I had the honor of serving as an instructor for a decade. You can find my work showcased on social media, under the name Rescue Company Media, where I capture the incredible moments that define our first responders' heroic efforts.
Capturing Heroism in Action
At Rescue Company Media, we have a mission: to honor the service and sacrifices made by our first responders. We provide them with valuable content free of charge, helping countless departments and agencies across the East Tennessee region. Each photograph I take is more than just an image—it's a freeze-frame of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering duty, serving as a powerful reminder of what true heroism looks like.
My decision to become an emergency photographer stemmed from a desire to serve my community once more. Even without current certifications, I wanted to lend my support to local volunteer fire departments and rescue squads. I realized that my photography could play a significant role in raising awareness, securing donations, and encouraging new volunteers to step forward.
In the Thick of Action
While my camera allows me to document vital moments, my role extends beyond photography. On the scene of emergencies, I assist with critical tasks such as pulling hose, changing bottles, and monitoring safety hazards for all personnel. I navigate these responsibilities while carrying approximately $10,000 worth of camera gear, ensuring that I remain vigilant and present in every moment.
A Shared Commitment to Safety and Integrity
When I think of Team Wendy, I immediately associate their name with integrity, honor, dedication, unwavering safety, and legacy—values I hold dear. Our shared passion for protecting others is what drives both Team Wendy and me in our respective missions.
In my role as an ambassador for Team Wendy, I take this responsibility seriously. Whether I’m on-site capturing an emergency scene or documenting a training session, I am actively wearing my Team Wendy helmet to advocate for the importance of protection against traumatic brain injuries and seek opportunities to introduce my fellow instructors and first responders to Team Wendy. I want them to experience the science-backed comfort of wearing a Team Wendy helmet first-hand.
Being an emergency photographer is not just about capturing images; it's about serving a cause greater than myself and honoring those who put their lives on the line for others. I am grateful for every opportunity I have to showcase the bravery and dedication of our first responders. Together, we can continue to foster a culture of safety, support, and service in our community.
Thank you for taking the time to read my journey. If you’d like to see the incredible moments that reflect the dedication of our first responders, check out my work at Rescue Company Media on Facebook and Instagram. Together, let's celebrate and support those who serve us every day!
